BMW experimental eRR debuts – BMW Motorrad has developed a high-performance, zero-emissions motorcycle – the eRR.

BMW has always had a very innovative approach to design and a reputation for pushing the boundaries.

With the world focused on reducing emissions and developing alternative power sources for vehicles, BMW has already demonstrated its visionary and sustainable approach with the i3 and i8 and their revolutionary design principles of an aluminium chassis and passenger cabin made from carbon fibre.

On two wheels the BMW Motorrad C evolution proved that zero emissions, riding fun and practicality can all exist together in a scooter.

But what about supersports machines?

BMW Motorrad has been working on a project with the Technical University of Munich to combine a sport motorcycle and an electric drive to create the experimental vehicle eRR.

Regarding design and chassis technology, the eRR leans on the S 1000 RR supersport motorcycle, however it uses an all-electric drive.

Since its release the S 1000 RR sports bike has been at the top of the game.

In a press release today, Head of BMW Motorrad Stephan Schiller pointed out that for acceleration, handling or top speed – the RR is setting standards. However, for acceleration up to 50 or 60 km/h, the RR’s 199 bhp is actually beaten by another BMW product: the C evolution with its electric drive.

BMW Motorrad will announce technical details of the eRR at a later date, but this certainly shows the company is serious about the development of performance oriented electric powered machines.
