SMART Rider Morgan Park 15th August, 2018

smart-rider-logoROAD BASED SKILLS …..
….. TRACK BASED EXPERIENCE

Learn new skills, refresh old ones and improve your overall road riding in this NEW track based course.

This full day course at Morgan Park Raceway (Warwick) will teach you essential skills that can improve your riding and safety, and will allow you to explore the capabilities of your bike in a safe and controlled environment under the guidance of our highly experienced and accredited rider trainers.

Our association with Safe Drive Training (SDT) gives us access to the Morgan Park circuit at a reasonable fee, and that means you can experience quality on-track training at a very affordable rate – just $300.

These training days are run under strict supervision and safety standards, and unlike some track days where there is no tutoring available, our instructors are always there to help you improve your riding skills.

During the on-track coaching sessions you will have the chance to follow and learn from our instructors, and then have them follow you to observe your skills and give you feedback to improve your riding.

About your instructors

Your instructors draw on over 90 years of combined riding experience. From road to track to prototype development – there’s not much they haven’t seen or done. So no matter what your current experience level is, these guys are here to take you up a gear so you can enjoy your riding even more.

Steve McDowall has been around motorcycles in various roles for over 35 years. He’s worked with top names like Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan, and has been a test and development rider with Warren Willing (Castrol 6 Hour / Ducati MotoGP engineer). Steve’s been helping motorcyclists be the best rider possible for over 16 years now, and has been an accredited Q-Ride instructor for just on 10 years. HINT: don’t ask him about the Sydney Harbour Bridge! 🙂

Rob Jensen has been an accredited instructor for over 14 years, riding for over 30 and owns Motorcycle Masters Riding School on the Gold Coast. Rob has extensive experience coaching riders at an advanced level and when he’s not riding he’s kicking butt as a top level Taekwondo master instructor.

What do I need to participate in this on-track training day?

  • your own motorcycle that is both roadworthy and registered;
  • a current licence for the class of bike you are bringing to the course;
  • sufficient experience to be comfortable and confident to ride the bike you are bringing safely at speeds of 100km/h;

How to prepare for your training day

To make sure you get the most out of your day, here’s a suggested list of things to do before you arrive at Morgan Park:

  • make sure you have checked your bike over before the day to ensure it is in top condition – check tyre pressures and condition, chain tension and lubrication, brake pads and fluid, engine oil and coolant levels, and all electricals;
  • ensure you arrive at the track with a full tank of fuel (there is a Caltex, BP and Shell on the main road through the town centre) ; and
  • we will have water and snacks available but if possible, please bring your own food and drinks – there will be an opportunity to go into Warwick during the lunch break (5-10 minute trip).

Remember too that it can get cold in Warwick!!!

What is SMART Rider?

SMART Rider was launched by Steve’s business Motorcycle Life in 2016 with the support of Queensland Government and the Australian Road Safety Foundation as a way of helping riders improve their on-road skills with quality training at an affordable price. The first courses were full day roadcraft training days, and the program has now been expanded to include a second more advanced course and on track training for more experienced riders.
